allocation of memory

Greetings,
Can someone please tell me if there is a certain
percentage of a total amt. that gets allocated to memory,
etc when creating a single partition?
Let me briefly explain...
My computer is 60 gig. It totally crashed and I bought a
new one-I know that was drastic, but I am really addicted
to the internet, and just could not be without a
computer! Anyhow, I am trying to fix the one that gave me
the ugly black screen of death.
So.... I get the fdisk and undo/erase/delete/etc and
now I have a blank system.OK, so I put things back on, in
reverse order--like I was told to do-- I now must create
my single partician. So, I made a poor choice and
allocated my entire system to the c drive!
(LOL It is soooo obvious that I am not a computer
tech/geek... just a lowly paid RN!)
Of course, that means no floppy/memory/etc...
At this point, I don't know how much to allocatew to
what! I tried looking up to see how it was done from the
factory HP Invent Desktop, but I cannot find this info
anywhere. So, I was wondering...
*****Is there a formula or set rule of how much is
allocated to what? Guessing could take me a couple of
years! My system is 60 gig, so how woud you divide it all
up?
Thank You!!

First a bit of terminology.

Disk space is usually referred to as "storage" and not "memory".

The hard drive is really a filing cabinet where data and programs are
kept until they are needed.

Memory is normally used when referring to RAM.

Now for partition planning. This is a highly individualistic matter,
and you will get a wide variety of opinions from different people.

MVP Jim Eshelman has a pretty good article on partition planning and
the various considerations that go into it. You will find it at
http://aumha.org/a/parts.htm

Good luck
