:
Hi,
Start/run regedit, export these two keys to the desktop:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\exefile\shell\open\command
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.exe (this is period - exe)
Then right click each and select edit. Copy/paste the contents of
each
into
a reply.

Hi Rick,
Tried the exe fix, no luck. I get a message explorer.exe is being
used,
read
only, try again later. All exe file try to use Excel, cannot
access
anything
in Control Panel, so cannot add / remove programs. All programs
still
work,
access by right click on icon then use Run as.
Very slow process

Hi Rick,
No luck with fix. i think the cause was a program called
medload.exe
(origin
unknown). I click on open with Excel and now everything tries
to
use
Excel. I
can get programs to work by right click on the exe file and
then
click
on
run
as, which shows my user account, then click Ok.
Since trying the fix I have got a couple of Registry error
messages.
Everything seems to work except using the shortcuts, very
frustrating.

John
