When a new query is created and ENTER is pressed the result displays. Soon
after a pause and the programme shuts down, reopens and has made a backup
copy of the whole datat base.
The standard MS error reporting screen then opens. I have sent the error
report many times now and have had no answer.
I have used detect and repair from help. Also have used the XP setup disc to
repair and reinstall to original settings.
Should I now uninstall XP professionsal and reinstall or is there another
answer?
I am using Access 2002 with SP2 installed.

Corruption is more than likely the cause.

Create a new .mdb, and import all of the objects from the corrupt mdb.

Hi Golfer,

At home, I am running on WinXP Pro

Access 2002 (10.6771.6735) SP3

I might suggest first going to this site:

http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/officeupdate/default.aspx

and click on "Check for Updates"

So...at least get up to "latest" and if problems
don't go away, post back and we'll look at
some other things.

good luck,

gary

As Steve Clark said, corruption is the most probably cause. I've seen the
behavior you mention with records in a table having corrupt memo fields. If
the query contains any memo fields, create another query without them and see
if the behavior goes away. If so there are ways to recover your table
including most of data in the memo fields.

Below are some resources on corruption. My paper below discusses Memo field
corruption.

Tony Toews has an excellent web page on database corruption.
http://www.granite.ab.ca/access/corruptmdbs.htm

Allen Brown also has excellent info on corruption.

I have a white paper in a Word document named Fix Corrupt Access Database
towards the bottom this page:
