My daughter turned off all of my services to manual, I can't do a system
restore, I can't get onto the internet with my desktop, I have to manually
start Explorer from Task Manager just to see my desktop!

I've tried to get to the properties sheets on all the services, but I can't
open them. I can't copy, my jumpdrive doesn't connect...

Help! Thanks!

From Task Manager try launching

c:\windows\system32\restore\rstrui.exe

and see what happens.

Good luck

Ted and Ron,

hey thanks for trying guys, I really appreciate it. Trying to run Sys
Restore from the prompt doesn't work. I can manually start some of the
services by right-click>start but some are greyed out. I think they must
have dependancies that need to be turned first. So now I'm going through the
list 2 or 3 times until I can load no more services and see if that works if
all else fails, I'll do the repair install.

Thanks again... (damn kids!!!)

This won't help you now, but it's something to think about for the
future: disk imaging.

An image is like a backup, but it's more sophisticated. While a backup
makes copies of files and folders, an image is an exact copy of your
entire hard disk (or a partition on your hard disk.)

Let's say you were to divide your hard disk into two portions (aka
'partitions') - one for Windows and all your software, and the other for
all your own files (documents, photos, music, etc.) You could use
imaging software to make an exact copy of your system partition.

Suppose one day you boot up your computer and discover that one of your
heirs has messed up your Windows installation. Fortunately, you made an
image of your system partition the night before. In a matter of minutes
you restore the good image and you're back in business. Now all you have
to think about is how long to ground your heir.

Have a look at Acronis True Image Home 9.0 at www.acronis.com

Hi,

System Restore relies on the 'Remote Procedure Call (RPC)' service to run. Try
starting that service.
