All kinds of things wrong

I'm pretty sure that the answer to this is "reinstall windows" but, I thought
I'd give it a try.

This morning, my laptop was turned off when I woke up. Odd, since it stays
on most of the time. Anyway, when I got it up and running, there were lots
of things wrong with it, including:

-Right clicking on anything gets the Windows Installer dialog
-I cannot drag and drop anything nor cut and paste files, for example
-My network connections are all gone and trying to add a new one causes the
wizard to hang up
-WMP stopped working. When I try to run it, I get the following message
"Can't perfrom operation, low memory"
-System restore is hosed. It says that it can't be run on my computer (it
was).
-I keep getting bubbles telling me that random hardware is being installed.
-My sound card has completely stopped working. I only get system beeps.

I'm at a total loss. I've exhausted troubleshooting. Done what I could in
Safe mode... Any incite at all would be greatly appreciated.
