My problem is this, anytime I am connected with my dial up isp ( nothing else
available) it will go along fine for about 5 minutes or so, then it happens.
Roughly every minute to minute and a half the connection will just stall and
hang there for about 10 seconds. It starts going again on its own, than
stalls again. This is a constant problem especially since ( now dont laugh )
I do play online games. Mostly Medal Of Honor Allied Assault. While playing
the game my ping will bounce around 200ms than jump to 999 and stay there for
the 10 second stall ( sometimes less but mostly 10 seconds ) . I do have a
download manager ( get right ) the graph shows the stall as a total stop of
data transfer. I have disabled all automatic updates that I know of. I have
had the phone company check the line for noise ( but since it is so rythmic I
dont think it is the phone line ) I have used three different modems, 4
different isp's and I get the same results with each. I was just wondering if
anyone has had a similar headache. Now I did at one time try the connection
with an old pc that used windows 98se and the problem seemed to dissappear.
That is why I think it may be something to do with windows xp. Any help would
be great. thanks

First of all thank you for your quick reply. Although the link was very
informative and helpful, I still have the same problem. I have ran through
the list twice now and the connection still stalls. Again thank you for your
suggestions and any further advise.

After filling in the form please copy the selections line
underneath the form, just above the three buttons, and post it
here. Something seems to be going wrong.

I think this is the line you asked for:Selections: sporadic=1 ip=1
ie_strange=1 form=1
If not just let me know, and again , thank you.

Ah, that's good. Yes, that is the selection I would expect.

I'm surprised that none of the selected articles solved your
problem. They pinpoint exactly the usual causes for the problem
you describe. So I can only recommend to check once more whether
you didn't overlook or skip anything in the recommendations.

The most likely causes for regular interruptions are the 802.1X
authentication and power saving for adapters, but these are
mentioned on the web page. It could be something else, of
course, like a problem with a router, obsolete router firmware,
some other third party networking software, things like that.
You could try to describe your setup here. Do you use a router?

If you ever solve the problem, I'd be very interested to know
what caused it.

host pc= AMD Athlon XP 1916 MHz ASUSTeK a7n8x-e motherboard ( built in
network adapters) (latest bios 1012) 1 gig memory. Internal modem blaster pci
( also have a external Modem Blaster which I guess I need a high speed serial
port for because it is really slow ie:28.8 top connection speed. normal is
45-50) I use a D-link router for the lan ( DSS-5+)
other pc= Dell deminsion 8200 1.9 pen. 4 has a cnet ethernet card in it.
I usually disable the network,if I dont need it , while I am online.However
I have tried it with the network still enabled and also I just recently got
the host pc and tried the internet before I installed anything other than
Medal of Honor. That is when I first noticed the problem. So the problem was
there before the network was ever made. I should mention that the host has
sp2 installed and the other just has sp1. I have tried different connection
tweak programs ( cablenut right now is installed) while they have seemed to
help my throughput they have done nothing for this problem. I always make a
restore piont before I install any tweaks and then restore back after I try
it for a while and find it did nothing. Well there is some more of my sob
story, I will go and try the web page again to make sure I didn't miss
anything, thanks again.
