all docs open in Read Only when attached to an email

Every time i get an email with Worddocs or Excel sheets attached, they only
open for me in Read Only. I can't seem to find the setting and the senders
say they aren't sending it that way. Others seem to be opening them fine.

Note that when you open the attachments they are stored in a temp folder.
This means when you save the document and the document wasn't set as "Read
Only" you wouldn't get prompted to get the document out of temp location and
you'll eventually loose the modified document.

Anyway, open the message first and open the attachment from there instead of
by opening it from the Reading Pane.

Jefben, you didn't indicate which version of Office you're using. If it's
2003, go to Tools, Options and click on the General tab. Deselect the "Allow
Starting In Reading Layout" checkbox.
<I can't take credit for this. I found it on another site last month.> Hope
it helps.

Hi Gary,

No, this doesn't work for this issue. The Reading Layout in Word isn't the
same as files being marked as Read Only. See my post.
