I have this alert option checked, but I'm still allowed to overwrite cells
with data in them. I have Excel 2000, SR 9.0.3821 SR-1. Has anyone else had
this problem, and is there a solution? TIA

If your goal is to not have the data in the cell replaced, make sure the
Format Cells / Protection / Locked is checked and then protect the worksheet
with the Tools / Protection / Protect Sheets.

Hi Doc,
Actually my only goal was to understand why this option does not work
correctly. I don't need to protect cells in this case; I was manipulating
data in a spreadsheet and
noticed that I was able to paste the data over the top of existing data
without a prompt. Since the option is checked and should work, I'd like to
know what's wrong.

Are you sure the alert options is not for when you "Move" data to a cell with
existing data. You would receive a warning - Do you want to replace the
contents of the destination cells?
