aiosoftware.msi -- unable to locate

I'm working with a friend's PC (Win XP Home SP2). When XP boots, a window
is displayed saying it's unable to locate the file "aiosoftware.msi" and
asks where to find it. The default location XP is looking is "1" (weird),
but there's a browse button to look elsewhere. Friend says this started
happening about 2 weeks ago, but he doesn't recall trying to
install/uninstall anything.

I've searched the HDs and the file isn't to be found. He's got a Lexmark
multi-function printer and I thought that maybe AIO=All-in-One, so I
uninstalled/reinstalled the printer, but no joy. Have done all sorts of
Google searches and haven't found anything that's relevant.

Have also done Ad-Aware, SpyBot and even anti-virus scans, but nothing stops
the install attempt at boot.

Two questions:

1. Anybody know what software that "aiosoftware.msi" is included with?
Don't want to randomly uninstall/install everything on his PC.

2. What causes XP to even try to do an install of this? There's nothing
listed in MSCONFIG and a registry search found nothing referencing
aiosoftware.msi. Since everything my friend is using appears to be working
OK, maybe I could just remove whatever is causing XP to try to do the
install?

A few things come up on a search for 'aiosoftware' with Google. Some
references to HP software.

If there are additional programs installed with the printer, just
removing the printer from the system won't usually uninstall all the
extras that maybe in there.

If you can't pin it down, disable everything on startup and start enabling
one by one to see what might be causing the installer to kick in.

A little bit of a head scratcher...

I am having the same problem. I have 2 aiosoftware popups on my computer
every time I reboot. It is a brand new computer, and I just tried to
download printer software.

I am new to this post so bear with me.

I am having problems loading software for my HP All in One 5510
printer. When doing so I too encountered the AioSoftware message. I
found the AioSoftware on the installation CD that came with my printer.
It is located in setup and has a repair feature. If you don't have the
CD you can purchase it from HP. I opened Windows Explorer and did a
find on my drive with the CD. I then right clicked the ICON and a
repair was listed under OPEN. I clicked the repair and XP loaded the
software. So far it seems to have worked. I did this repair about 5
minutes ago, so time will tell.

I hope this helps you

I have the same problem, and it is related to a piece of software fro
HP named "hpqtra08" - search google for more information on th
software.

the solution is simply to RUN msconfig and disable the proces named

HP Digital Imaging Monitor

HP doesnt supply information on the problem but i seems to be relate
to installation/uninstallation of older software for scanners o
printers on HP PC´s with never versions of HP Image zone ( plus )

It it not possible to get rid of "hpqtra08" by simply uninstalling th
"old" scanner/printer software - so i guess that the only solution i
to disable the proces.

good luck Sven Christense

AiO Software is HP All-in-One printer driver

I had the same puzzle. I figured it out because I had been trying to install the driver for an HP 7310 All-in-One printer/fax/scanner/coffeemaker. I found the software in a subdirectory of the setup directory on the installation CD.

I had this problem too. After getting nowhere with HP support, I figured out I could use Windows Install Cleanup (from Microsoft) to make the installer quit trying to install AiOsoftware every time I booted. In my case AiOSoftware.exe was not on the HP disc.

Okay, folks. Here's your answer.

I have an Officejet 5610 All-in-One, and was plagued by the same problems as you're having. This is what I did.

Go to HP's support site and look up your printer. On the drivers page for my printer, there is a small, basic driver install package and a large one - in my case, 309.96 Mb. You need to download the large package, not do the automatic install.

Run the install package. Eventually, you should get to a screen with the option to install more software, add a device and uninstall.

At this point, go to your C:\Temp directory and look inside. The directory in my Temp folder is named HP_WebRelease. Open that directory and look for a 'setup' directory. Inside there, you'll find a folder named, very simply, aiosoftware. And that's where you'll find the .msi and .cab file you need.

I also needed the files destinations.msi and destinations.cab for my HP camera. If anyone is needing those files, they're in there, too.

Me, I zipped up the entire HP_WebRelease directory and stuck in storage in case I need anything from it again.:)

Okay. I posted this on another board, so I'll do it here, too. I had
the same problem as you, and here's how I fixed it.

I have an HP 5610 All-in-One printer. I went to the HP Support site
and looked up the drivers for my printer. On the page were to types: a
small, basic one that just included what you needed to make the printer
work; and another much larger file (in my case, 309.96 Mb) that
includes all the extras. I downloaded the large file. Do not do the
automatic install. Download it.

Run the install program and let it unpack itself. Eventually, a
Welcome window will pop up that will let you install more software, add
another device or uninstall.

At that point, go check in your C:\Temp directory. In my case, the
installer made a directory there called HP_WebRelease. In that
directory, open the 'setup' directory and you'll see a big list of
directories, including one called 'aiosoftware'. The .msi and .cab
files you need are in there. :D

I needed some other files that I was missing for my HP camera, which I
found in there, too. If you have the drive space, I'd recommend
zipping up that directory (I zipped the entire HP_WebRelease directory)
and stick in storage someplace in case you ever need one of those files
again.

Sorry for the double post.

I didn't know both places share posts. One was to PC Review and the other was to PC Banter.

I don't know. I did it my way and everything is working fine. I mean,
the files are already there on the hard drive in the temp directory.
All I had to do was install them.

Plese somebody can help us, I have the same problem

The same problem as what? You've posted to an older thread without
quoting any of it so no one knows what you mean.

The "aiosoftware.msi" is a file connected with HP All-In-One printer
software. A quick Google for "aiosoftware.msi" found this HP link which
may help you:

If you need more help, please make a new post and include all the
necessary details to get focused troubleshooting per:

What "same problem"? You posted your question as a reply to an old thread
but did not quote any of it so there is no context. Many people use a
newsreader to access what are actually Usenet newsgroups, rather than the
awful web interface, and only download the most recent messages so older
messages might not be visible.. FYI, when asking for help on your own
problem create a new post, rather than asking as a reply to someone else's
thread. Also when replying please quote at least part of the message to
which you reply for context.

Here is a link on making a good newsgroup post. Please review that and the
resubmit your question as a new thread. Thanks.
