I set up the POP and SMTP as what i was told on the website, but i still
cannot send emails from that address. Please help.

What website? Make sure all your account settings agree with this:
http://email.about.com/od/outlookexpresstips/qt/et032906.htm

If the account you already had set up is configured for POP3 protocol,
delete it, because AOL/AIM currently only recommends IMAP accounts.

If you still get an error message when you try to send or receive,
right-click on your error message, copy, then paste it into a reply here.
We can't do much troubleshooting without the complete error message.

I can receive the messages just fine. I just cant sent them. Here is my error
message.

The message could not be sent. The authentication setting might not be
correct for your outgoing e-mail [SMTP] server. For help solving this
problem, go to Help, search for "Troubleshoot Windows Mail", and read the
"I'm having problems sending e-mail" section. If you need help determining
the proper server settings, please contact your e-mail service provider.

The rejected e-mail address was '(e-mail address removed)'. Subject '',
Account: 'pop.aim.com', Server: 'smtp.aim.com', Protocol: SMTP, Server
Response: '556 CLIENT AUTHENTICATION REQUIRED. USE ESMTP EHLO AND AUTH.',
Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 556, Error Number: 0x800CCC78

03sixbanger,
1. to the Advance tab, for your AOL POP3 Acct Properties.
2. Change the Outgoing Mail Server PORT setting from 25 to 587.
3. Check the box to Require SSL/TSL Encryption, for just the Outgoing Server.

03sixbanger,
A Google Search for the Error:

Appears to me at least to be an error with a IMAP acct, not a POP3 acct. Did you
set this up as an IMAP or a POP3 acct? I have the settings that I use for these
two types accts, listed below. I have check them sending from different AIM
accounts, and they seem to be working fine, right now.

Try Unchecking in the Acct's Properties window, and try these settings"
1. Server tab:
a. Try using smtp.aol.com instead of smtp.aim.com.
You might have to change it back in the future. Sometimes I have to do that with
my AIM accts once a month, especially on a weekend. I don't know if they are
doing maintenance on the server.
b. Make sure the box requiring Outgoing Mail server Authenication is Check.
c. Under the Setting button, change automatically using Incoming Server
UserID & Password. Choose the other option and add your AIM UserID (without
"@aim.com") and password.

2. On the Advance tab:
a. Use Port: 587 for Outgoing Server.
b. Clear the box under Outgoing Server Port setting, for SSL connection.
c. Extend timeout for the acct to the max, in OE it's 5 mins, I forgot what
it was in WM or WLM.

For my AIM "POP3" accts I have the following settings:
Server tab:
Incoming Server: pop.aol.com or pop.aim.com
Outgoing Server: smtp.aol.com or smtp.aim.com

Advance Tab:
Incoming Server Port: 110
Outgoing Server Port: 587
Outgoing Server requires SSL is Checked.

For my AIM "IMAP" accts I have the following settings:
Server tab:
Incoming Server: imap.aol.com or imap.aim.com
Outgoing Server: smtp.aol.com or smtp.aim.com

Advance Tab:
Incoming Server Port: 143
Outgoing Server Port: 587
Outgoing Server requires SSL is UNchecked.

Port 587 is good, but do NOT enable the SSL option.
Also, make sure you have send authentication enabled.
Go to Tools, Accounts, select that account, Properties, Servers.
The box for "My server requires authentication" must be checked.
