AGP slots vary in configuration?

I bought an older 8mb AGP card for testing. Won't fit into a slot on a
P4C-800. Am I correct in assuming the 8mb is a 2x card, therefore the shape
of the connectors is different?

No, here are the different AGP connector syles. The shape of the
connectors on AGP determine the operating voltage and speed.

That means it is keyed for 3.3V and your motherboard is a 1.5V

The 8 MB is a 1x card and will not work in that board.
