Agent Ransack: how is it so fast? Does it use the XP indexes built by index service?

After six months of sporadically trying to get the Windows XP search
function to use the indexes built by the active indexing service, I
gave up. I feel like an idiot: The service is obviously building the
index, but when I search for files (not for contents) it takes so
long, XP is obviously not using the index. As for the suggestions to
use the complex syntax of the query language, I can't be bothered when
I just want to do a file search. It is hard to imagine a more basic
operation.

So I installed AgentRansack. I ran a search, and the results were
almost immediate. Prior to installation, I was assuming that this
program would build an index, but since I got an almost immediate
answer from searches right after I installed it, I am confused. Does
it use the XP index built by the index service (in which case I will
not deactivate that service)? I can'f find an answer on the agent
ransack site, so I ask here.

Hi

No, it does not use the index service...

I don't have the indexer inabled, and A.R. is lightning fast. That indicates
to me that it does not depend upon XP's search in any way.
