After XP SP1 is installed, f.Seek( fb.m_offset, CFile::begin ) is slow

File io is significantly slower on XP pro with SP1
installed vs not installed. The fix for KB article 815411
does not help. Has anyone else experience file io slowdown
after appling XP Professional SP1?

you could try reinstalling your motherboard drivers

Ah, yes. I know about those, but I usually think of them as chipset
drivers.

I've been running mobos with VIA chipsets for several years and have
installed and updated the VIA 4-in-1 drivers more times than I can count.
But I haven't had to do that with my current (2-year-old) EPoX 8K3A+ mobo
and WinXP, so I had almost forgotten about them.

When I saw the phrase "motherboard drivers", my first thought was "in-place
upgrade", which is usually required to let Setup re-customize WinXP for a
new mobo. And that's a much bigger project than just "reinstall ...
drivers".
