Reloaded/installed XP, and now cannot find old programs
like Office, Adobe, and AOL. How can I tell new XP where
the programs are, and make them run without having to re-
install dozens of programs from 3 years back. I do not
have all the CD's. PLUS,,,how do I get my old OUTLOOK
emails???

Most of what you asked depends heavily on YOUR definition of
"Reloaded/installed XP" in your above statement.

If you deleted the partitions and started anew - well, everything must be
installed from the original CD/Installation Media/Internet.

If you did a in-place repair installation or a parallel installation for
some other reason, then there MAY be other options.

Your BEST bet, however, is to do a complete refresh/re-install of all
applications. If, as you say, you do not have the installation media for
some of the programs you have installed, then you will have to locate it or
purchase the newer version of the software. AOL is extremely easy - as any
retail store (nearly) has a copy of their free CD. As for Office (assuming
you mean Microsoft Office) - if you lost your media, that's similar to
losing $200. As you dd not specify whichAdobe product, you left that one
open. Adobe Acrobat Reader is a free download.

A clean install would be better for several reason, but one of the main
things is there was undoubtedly things (applications) installed on your PC
(or uninstalled but leaving their 'marks') that you never used, have not
used in some time, etc. The only other question that comes to mind is how
you had programs installed on Windows XP for three years? heh I assume you
upgraded from a previous OS?

Shenan,

I have re-installed XP into same directory before and was
able to use programs that were there before INSTALL.

Isn't there some Application Data folder or something on
another Folder somewhere that can be copied to new User
folder?

What about my Office and Outlook .ost's and .pst's?

Thanks,

C:\Documents and Settings\

Should have all of your old users in there.. May have to take ownership.
Also your Outlook (assuming the full version) will be in there.

Let me clear up what I just said. heh

The directory "C:\Documents and Settings\" should have various users in it.
Assuming you are an administrator, you should be able to see all of the
users (old and new) that are in there and perhaps (unless you need to take
ownership first) you can browse these directories and pull out your Outlook
OST/PSTs. Some of your settings and such may be there, but there is a
distinct possibility (depending on the method and reason behind your
reinstallation of XP and methodology) you will not be able to find these
things and/or you will have to reinstall the applications. The latter is
true more often than not from a re-install of an OS.. As there are MANY
registry entries and such in Windows for each application, particularly
those you mention. The files are actually only 1/2 of the total equation.

Shen,

I did something that found some Programs from previous
install. It found a previous installed Game, and
PhotoSuite.

Can you explain how that happened?

TY

Just upgraded from Windows 98 to XP Home. All of my files
are there, word files, excel files, pictures, music, etc.,
but I cant run the Microsoft Office programs. Where are
they?

Please help.

you can email me at (e-mail address removed)

Yea this happened from ME to XP for me. You gotta reload
all your shit because it is incompatable.

Do you realize what an impossible question that is? You did "something" --
but your don't tell us what -- and then you ask someone else to explain the
result.
