After system recovery, it remembers reg edits & other tweaks! Why?

After the last couple of recoveries I've had to do, I noticed my system is
remembering reg edits and other tweaks, like my windows view setting and
color setting. I called Toshiba and the "helper" finally said, "just go into
command prompt and type fdisk/mbr and that should clear it out". Now this is
after I have even replaced the HD and used the oem dvd that came with my
system, toshiba 5205 w/mce 04.
I would really appreciate any suggestions on how to completely clear out
whatever is keeping my system from being recovered to "factory settings".
Thanks for your time

Two things...both are as different as nite and day

System recovery = the use of a tool or software program t
"RECOVER" from a system failure or hardware failure.

System restore = the act of restoring your system to a priar conditio
or state such as " Like New" or to a previous date/tim

If you wish to restore your laptop back to the "Like New
condition then you will need to use the manufacturer's retoratio
disc or program to completely reformat and restore the operatin
system and all other programs that were included on the purchase. Yo
will lose all your data and settings and the likes. This may also b
refered to as a "Destructiv
Restore or Recovery

If you wish to save all your settings and the likes then it i
sometimes refered to as

Hello, the answer is yes, I wish to completely restore the system to the
original factory default with the original recovery dvd, as I am the original
owner, but like I said when I do that, there are registry tweaks and other
settings that are still present even when the system is wiped clean. I don't
have a problem with reinstalling any extra programs and losing everything, I
just want to get it done.
Thanks

This is not possible. You are doing something wrong. Many restore
programs require you to go into Advanced settings (or the like) to do a
complete factory restore. The default is usually to *not* do this which
would produce the results you are getting. Refer to your manual or look
on Toshiba's tech support site for how to completely restore your
computer to factory condition.

I guess I don't understand what you mean, in 2 months I've had this system 3
years and I have done a complete system recovery several times, with each
time the system going back to the factory settings. In Dec. I thought I may
have received an unremoveable virus so once again I did a system recovery
with the original dvd, and that was the first time it did not "wipe" the
system clean. The same day right after that I recovered it again with the
same result. I replaced and upgraded the HD, used the recovery dvd again and
had the same result.
I don't know about other systems but recovering a toshiba is very easy, just
hold the c key when booting, makes the system boot from disc drive first,
then prompts for confirmation if you want to wipe c drive clean. But, still
not a complete re-install. I say again, it is remembering my registry tweaks,
windows tweaks, and graphic enhancements, NOT "wiping" the system clean.

Look, it's very simple. A complete factory restore of any OEM image
brings the machine back to the way it was when it came from the
factory. No user-applied settings, data, programs, or other entries
will be there after applying the image. Therefore, either you are *not*
doing a true factory restore *or* you are misinterpreting what you are
looking at. There's no way for me to know since I can't see your
computer from here.

Either take your computer to a professional computer repair shop or call
Toshiba tech support.
