After replying my message deletes from the in box. This was not an issue
until today. I can see the old copy in my sent folder with the reply. I
have looked at the options and I don't see anything that would create a rule
for this. Can anyone help me, please?

Thanks!

is it actually deleting or do you have a view set that hides read messages?
Look on the Views menu and choose a different view.

I am actually trying to help someone else. As far as I can tell he has not
changed his views. He is a daily user but not extemely familiar with the
settings. I walked him through all of them and as far as I can tell he has
them all correct. I tried to use the help and the knowledge database to find
the correct settings but was not able to find any that would change to cause
this. He is running Windows XP with Office XP. What would be the correct
settings. He is saying that they are missing from the inbox and delete but
he can see the response in the sent folder with the original messages
attached.

Nonetheless, what you described in your original post is exactly what
someone would see if he or she had selected "Unread Messages" as the View
instead of "Messages".

I verified that it was in the inbox view and not the unread message view
before we started trouble shooting the issue. He had complained for about a
week that he was not recieving all of his emails. (I verified that last night
with test messages one was recieve the other was not.) It is a coporate
email account that he is using. I am wondering if doing a repair might be
the answer but honestly I have never had to do one on mine in the zillion or
so years that I have been using outlook. Where can I find the information on
how to do a repair correctly so he does not loose any information that he may
already have saved?

I don't think a repair will do much for this problem but it won't hurt to
try it - look for it on the help menu.

The first thing I would try is:
Go to View, current View, Define views and choose Messages view - then
Reset.
If he's losing messages as they arrive/before they arrive, it's either the
mail server or rules - look in Tools, Rules Wizard for any rules that might
be causing problems.
