Hi all,

I read a few posts regarding Windows XP only starting in safe mode, and did
not find a question/answer regarding my issue.

I reinstalled my Windows XP three times, since I received an error message
that the computer can only start in Safe Mode. Three times later, I still
cannot start my Windows in normal mode. Once in safe mode, I am not
receiving any error messages or incompatibility messages.

Can anyone help please?

Thanks,

Tina

On your main boot drive there will be a file called boot.ini, Windows uses
this file to tell it where you installations of windows are and how to start
them.

In this file you can add switches to make windows always start in safemode
and i'm guessing this has somehow been set.

Once in safemode, Click on Start, then Run, type msconfig then click ok.

When the "System Configuration Utility" opens, make sure that on the system
tab the "Normal Startup" option is selected. Now click on the Boot.ini tab.

In the top text box you should have two headings, {Boot loader] and
[operating systems], under operating systems there should be a single line.
Highlight this line, now make sure that all tick boxes are NOT ticked. Click
on Apply, click on OK. Now restart your machine. Hopefully you should boot
back into normal windows.
