I realised that this could be a problem for many people, since the
introduction of service pack 2. I have been trying to find a soultion for
this problem for many months now, but have finally found something that
worked! Feel free to use the instructions below if you are suffering the same
problems!
You need to use you Registry editor, which may sound a bit scary, but is
quite easy to use if you follow these instructions:

Click START,
Click on RUN
In the text box enter REGEDIT, and click OK,
The registry editor should open,
Click on the cross next to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
Then go to SYSTEM
Then go to CONTROL
Then Select LSA
In the right hand screen you should see some icons appear,
Find the two that say restrict anonymous, and double click on them both.
You need to change both their value datas to 0
Once you have done this, Exit the registry editor, by clicking the cross,
and then RESTART your computer!

You should find that this solves the problem, Whatever the outcome, let me
know!!

There is a *Current Control Set* branch between the System and Control
leaves but more important, LSA modifications can ruin the whole system
security.

Hello,
I was wondering on which system you have to perform this action on? I have
2 systems. Computer 1 is my gateway computer that has the direct access to
the internet. Computer 2 is my main system that is linked to Computer 1 for
internet activity. When I install SP2 for Windows XP Home, my network is
disabled. I have tried everything I can think of to fix it and it does not
work. Should I try this on both systems and then install SP2 or should I
install SP2 and then try this action? Please let me know. Thanks.

Vic,

Depending upon your problem, you may have to make this change on all of your
computers. If this problem affects the contents of Network Neighborhood, all
computers on your LAN are subject to this.

Don't count on this being your only problem though. Installation of SP2 has
also been known to activate Windows Firewall, for instance.

Robbie, like many who have gotten help here, is thinking that his solution
applies to everybody. This isn't always correct, and you may have to diagnose
your problem more methodically.
