advice needed on windows documents which are prefixed by ~$

I have found 62 documents which are "hidden" files and prefixed by ~$. When I
open all I get are squares etc and I cannot read the contents

They are just temp files.

 

[trip_to_tokyo]

You can safely delete these files. I always do and never experience any
problems.
