New XP prof. with service pack2 installed, I am a single user of my system.
To update the firmware of my CD writer, and following the enclosed
instructions, I opened System - Hardware - Device manager, then the seondary
IDE channel window; an "advanced setting tab" should be available... but I
have only "generale", "Driver", "dettagli" e "risorse" (that's the italian
version). No advanced setting in any property tabs! Can you help? Thanks,

You considered DRIVER tab|UPDATE DRIVER - if that is your intent.

Are you certain that the update should not be instead accomplished under
the DVD/CD ROM branch in Device Manager?

Verify what needs to be done with the manufacturer before making any changes.

You will not see the Advanced Settings section if your hardware does not
support DMA. Or if it is taken care of through the driver settings. An
example of this is the Intel Application Accelerator.

Thanks, that's right: I can access to the advanced settings trough the Intel
Application Accelerator.
