I want to set my presentation up so that at the end of a slide it
automatically progresses to a predetermined slide.

Example: When I click on a hyperlink on table of contents I advance to a
slide. Once that slide is finished I want it to return automatically to Table
of Contents. I am using a return button at this time, but if the presenter
clicks the page instead of the button it progresses to the next page.

You'll probably want to use a Custom Show for the the slide that is linked to
from the Table of Contents. Set the hyperlink to the Custom Show and check
the Show and Return box, and it should do what you want.
