I can't seem to figure out how to do this:

After a number of automatic animations on a slide, I want to initiate
one last animation (with a click) and then immediately when that
animation is done, advance to the next slide without having to click
again. Is there a way to do this?

Dear User,
You can do this ...
Suppose you have two objects in a slide...
Select OBj1 ... Right Click and click Custom Animation... Under Timing click
animate .... then click on automatically....ok
Select OBj2 (the last object) Right Click and click Custom Animation...
Under Timing click animate .... then click on Mouse Click..... ok
Now go to Slide Show> Slide Transition .... Click on Advance automatically..
apply...
You r done.

You want to set up the transition to happen after an amount of time instead
of on mouse click. Check out the Transitions entry from the right click
menu. It should get you where you need to go. If it doesn't, or if you need
more detailed instructions, post back with your PPT version.

okay - let me reword that - Right click and select "Transitions" from the
menu.

Better? (That's what I get for getting up early and starting work early two
days in a row.)

I guess my point was that I don't see a transitions option when I
right-click.

Oooh, wait. I get it -- You mean to right-click the slide thumbnail in the
thumbnail task pane and then select transitions from there. Gotcha.

Right click on the slide miniature has been around forever - So has right
clicking on the slide itself where there isn't anything on the slide or on
the grey background (the desktopy area). On the slide miniature, it's the
2nd from the bottom on the menu. On the slide itself, it's the bottom thing
on the menu.

I use the miniature to save a few key/mouse clicks when I need to apply a
transition to a number of slides in 2002 or 2003. Select the slides, right
click, select transitions, click the transition on the task pane/window.
Really works slick with the task pane - cuts down on needing to worry about
whether I applied the transitions to the right slides.

If I recall correctly, setting the slide transition to automatic renders the
animations on the slide automatically as well -- even if they're set up as
manual. I may be wrong on that, but anyway...

I know I sent someone information about this recently, but I don't know if
it was a newsgroup post or if it was via email. I do know that the person I
got this workaround from used the phrase "shim slide" (whereas I probably
would have used "sham slide" instead -- which is why I remember it!) in the
description. I googled for "sham" and didn't find anything relevant, but
"shim" turned up a few relevant posts. None recent, but I think these will
explain the workaround anyway.

Please take a few minutes to register with Microsoft your wish for way to
have an "on click" animation that triggers a slide transition. See
http://www.rdpslides.com/pptfaq/FAQ00545.htm for specifics on how to do
that.

I'm working with PPT 10 (2002) and I don't want to time the
transitions and you are correct that setting advance slide to 00:00
timing, renders all the object animations automatic. There doesn't
seem to be an advance slide automatically option that is not linked
with timing. So...I'm afraid none of the answers so far really seem to
point to a solution.

I just had a brainstorm.... Are you running this presentation with a speaker
or just as a stand alone kiosk? If you are running it as a speaker, you can
add a shape to the slide that is animated to come in when you are ready to
move on. When that shape comes up, you know to click and move on to the next
slide.

A third idea: Have the shape be a box with a 98 percent transparent fill and
no lines. Make the box cover the whole slide. Animate it to come in when you
are ready to transition. Then, set it's mouse over action setting to be a
hyperlink to the next slide. Object comes in, mouse is over it, slide
changes.

You shouldn't have to time the transitions too much if you use the
technique
described at
http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=en&lr=&c2coff=1&[email protected]

At any rate, you'd only have to time it for the first slide, and you might
even be able to get away with a 00-second automatic transition, depending
on
what's on the slide.

But yes, there's no real good solution to this one.
