Hi,
I'm connected to internet via ADSL router, it is safe to have it turned on
all the time? Is there a risk from overheating? It is a Zyxel router, 10 W
power consumption, AC 16Volts/1.0A. Thanks

No. My router's been on since I unwrapped it from the box.

Well safety is always relative. It's safer to switch it off but the risk of
leaving it on is extreemly low. Do you bother to switch of power to your
house when you go on holiday?

I leave my modem and router on all the time.

Re: security: test your port status via ShieldsUp (grc.com). My Netgear
RT314 is full stealth including no ICMP responses, and it has been on 24x7
for years without any problems.

Re: other: verify you have space above the router for convection cooling.
Read your manual about power cycling your router, as some manufacturers
recommend leaving a device on always (I have seen several WiFi APs with that
recommendation).

BTW, Zyxel is an excellent product (much better than a LinkSys).

My Zyxel Prestige 642 caught fire last week. Lost the cat and the house so
now what.

I would replace the house first otherwise the new cat won't have anywhere
warm and comfortable to sleep.
