I am in the process of setting up a home network between 2 PCs. I am not sure
whether i should be using a adsl router or a network hub or does it matter. I
use AOL and they say to use a router. In the windows xp home networking
tutorial it say to use a network hub. Which is best. or does it even matter?
Any help would be appriciated.

Andy,

If you're just connecting 2 computers for sharing files, a hub (switch) works
fine. But, if you want to connect the 2 computers to the internet, using a NAT
router to share the connection is a very good idea.
- Easier to setup
- Better security
- Requires less computer resources

If you want to share the AOL connection between the computers, ask AOL
how to do it. There are specific requirements for sharing AOL, and
only certain router models can do it.

If you only want to share files and printers between the computers,
then a network switch (which is better than a hub) is all you need. A
typical home router has a network switch built in and will also work.
