Hi

what's the difference between DSL and ADSL or is the same thing?

DSL is the generic name for either ADSL or SDSL. in ADSL you have two
speeds generally, and ADSL is generally residential grade. In SDSL both
up/down are the same speed and it's a better quality than ADSL normally.

No, I think the explanation he was looking for is why are you too lazy to do
a simple search, could have saved a whole thread, and probably your time.

Do you think so?
Why?

And to add to that, most of the DSL that's commonly available (in the USA
anyway--I don't know about the rest of the world) is ADSL. I have ADSL here,
and I don't even think that SDSL is a choice.

By the way, for the benefit of the OP, ADSL stands for Asynchronous DSL
(different upload and download speeds) and SDSL is Synchronous DSL (same
upload and download speeds).

Thanks Ken

I'm in France and here is ADSL

You're welcome. Glad to help.

Yes, I noticed the news.wanadoo.fr, which was why I added the "in the USA"
comment.

SDSL is often available where a T1 is available, and it's available in
many areas of the US. It's more of a business class connection and has
higher customer costs.

TIA

ADSL (Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line) is a specific kind of DSL.
DSL and xDSL are terms referring to the same thing. There are other
kinds of DSL, including SDSL, HDSL, and VDSL. Google these terms to
learn more.
