ADSL Modem/Startup/Line Sync/USB

This isn't really a problem but just a perculiarity. I have a USB ADSL
modem, and it works perfectly. However, before I can connect to the ADSL
service, the modem naturally has to achieve line sync. Now here is where my
question comes in.

Currently, when the system boots, the modem is powered on and tries to
achieve line sync. This is fine. However, when XP starts up, it "resets" the
modem, and the modem has to power on again and achieve line sync again. This
of course wastes time.

My question is, is there a way to stop XP from "resetting" the modem
when it starts? So that it is powered on once at boot- time.

No, the ADSL modem is probably set, misaccordingly, to

retrieve it's power source via the USB bus. I believe
some devices are capable of connectly ONLY via USB and
not plugged into an electrical outlet. When Windows
reboots, it reboots all it's devices onto the window
stack (as opposed to the BIOS/hardware stack). It
reloads the drivers for the ADSL modem which reboots the
modems request for a power source. Then the modem begins
its communication with windows agian. Just a guess.

Check to see if the modem behaves the same when connected
via standard ethernet (cat-45) cable? .

My modem only supports a USB connection (it is a DLink DSL-200) and has no
power cable (uses USB for power).
