I keep recieving those darn pop up ads. If I leave my
computer on while I'm at work I come home to about 35 of
them. I talked to a friend who got rid of his by buying
Norton anti-virus. I'm a starving student right now. So
how would a guy like me get rid of them? I thought a
firewall but that did not work.

Go to download.com and look for AdAware, and also get a pop up stopper by
searching in Google.

if the ads are from messenger service and appear in a
gray box...you can turn them off by going into the
control panel, administrative tools, services, and going
to where is says messenger, scroll over and disable
it.

You could also download Sygate Personnal Firewall, this is
a FREE firewall which will stop the popups from getting
thru.

You should find this at www.download.com as well.

Go to Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services. Scroll down to
Messenger. Right click on it and select Stop. Then go to Properties and change
Startup Type to "Disabled."

BTW, this has nothing to do with Windows Messenger.
