i have forgotten my adminstrator password and am not logged in how can i change the password?

Since the normal method will ask you for your current password, do it from
the command prompt (cmd.exe)

net user administrator ferret

That will set "ferret" as administator's new password. And while you're at
it, CREATE A BACKUP ADMINISTRATOR ACCOUNT.

Use your backup admin account. Or buy WinInternals' Locksmith (now part
of their other products) or some other such password unlock tool. Or do
a search looking for a bootable floppy (runs *NIX) that trys to hack the
password (I've never used so don't remember any sites but a Google
search turns it up).

If resetting your password were easy, there would be no security.
Although you should be using complex passwords, you can still make them
memorable. Or write it down and lock it away if your memory is FIFO
bound.

I was going to say that you missed the part where he said he's logged on,
but ~I~ missed the part where he said he's NOT logged on. Ooops.

Rich, ignore my answer. Search this newsgroup for the multitude of posts
with the same question and you'll find dozens of answers.
