Administrator User is Gone

Hello:

The controller at one of my client sites got a new Windows XP machine and
configured his user ID to be an administrative user on that machine.
Although he was successful in accomplishing this task, he somehow in the
process accidentally deleted the "Administrator" user ID that comes loaded
with the operating system.

He and I worked on trying to recreate this user, but perhaps that user
cannot be recreated. Can it? Is there another way of "retrieving" this user
ID?

Thanks!

You can't delete the admin account without a special 3rd party tool, you can
only rename it.

The Admin SID should always end with 501, if you can enumerate the SIDS.

alternately, the administrator account cannot be locked out. create a saftey
admin account, define a lockout policy and try to lock the suspected admin
account.

You can't delete the built in administrator account.

When you create new accounts, the administrator account is not shown on the
welcome screen anymore.

If you need to log into the administrator account, with no one logged in, at
the welcome screen, press cont-alt-del twice, and you'll be able to log into
the Administrator account via the traditional Windows Login..
