Try leaving the password blank.

The password is Case Sensitive.
Check Caps Lock and try various of Capital combinations.

If you do not have a Password Recovery Disk, it is to late to make it.
Or
Log in to any account that has Administrator access.
Then go to User Accounts in Control Panel.
Select the user and change the password.

Windows XP Pro:
At the log-in screen, press Ctrl/Alt/Del twice quickly
Type "Administrator" and leave password blank.

Windows XP Home:
Reboot, tapping F8 each second.
Select Safe Mode at the menu.
Select Administrator, leave password blank.

Then go to User Accounts in Control Panel.
Select the user and change the password.
If you are using Windows XP Pro and have encrypted data, you may
permanently lose access to the encrypted data.

Here is another option:

Another option is to install Windows XP on another partition and take
Ownership of your data.
You could also perform another installation on the same partition,
although this is not a permanent fix and it is recommended to perform
a Clean Installation after retrieving your data.

After this is resolved, take precautions to not lose the password.

Jupiter,
may I jump in? Me too heaving a problem with Administration of Win XP Home.
But in my case, I'm the only Administrator/User, have no password. However,
a few days ago, while in the Safe mode, I somehow <created> another
identity. Although this new identity is not listed in the User Accounts, it
took over the whole thing. Now I cannot see or get access to my old files. I
tried Restore. Got all my folders back, but they are empty, no files.
May you suggest how to get my old identity and files back?
Thanks for your help.

Ilya;
The original Administrator is hidden once another user is created, you
should be able to access it in Safe Mode.

You can create a new user and copy the data to the new user if the
original is corrupted.

If the data is not there, check for virus and spyware.
Run an updated virus scan.
Or Scan for Viruses online:

Run Disk Cleanup checking all boxes except "Compress old files"
(Windows XP)
Start/All Programs/Accessories/System Tools/Disk Clean-up
Check this link:

Run Ad-Aware (free version) or Spybot to check for spyware:
