I have WinXP (Home Edition). A computer friend was working on my computer
the other day and must have changed some settings. I used to be able to
turn it on, then leave the room to do other things and come back after the
desktop was showing. Now when the first Windows screen shows up, on the
right hand side is my name and I have to click on that before it will
continug loading. He said he doesn't remember how to change that in the
Home Edition (ony in the Pro Edition). It's very annoying, wastes my time
either waiting until it reaches that point, or having to make a second trip
back in the room to click it. Can anyone help? (I hope I'm explaining this
sufficiently.)

1. Go to Start | Run and type in: control userpasswords2 | Ok.

2. On the Users tab, clear the Users Must Enter A User Name And Password
To Use This Computer check box and then click OK.

3. In the Automatically Log On dialog box that appears, type the user
name and password for the account you want to be logged on each time you
start your computer.

You can accomplish the same thing by:

Download and install tweakui for xp and use its auto logon feature.

Lastly you can add the Dialog box that comes up when running control
userpasswords 2 to the Control Panel with the following tweak:

Add Control User Passwords2 to the Control Panel (Line 1)

Thanks, Rock. It wasn't asking for a password, just wanted me to click on
my name. So would this still apply?

Yes, just leave the password field blank when asked.

If you have gotten the .Net Framework updates, these create a new special user
'ASPNET". Locate, download and install TweakUI (part of Powertoys for XP).
Then, in the "Logon" section, just un-check every "username" that you do not
want to show up on the Welcome screen (Only leave yours!)
