Hey All,

Just bought a used laptop, changed the admin name but it didn't change the
name of the my documents folder and shows up in the network as the old name.
Once heard of this before and there was a registry hack but never thought to
write it down.

Thank you

What do you mean by "changed the admin name"? Do you mean you changed
the name on an account from that of the previous owner?

If this is what you did, then you have discovered that this doesn't
work. You need to create a new user account and, if you want the data
and settings, copy them from the old account to the new one. Here are
links to help you:

1. Copy a user account:

Note: You will need to log into the new account once before you can copy
anything to it. You will also need to import email messages and
addresses to the new user account before you delete the old one (if you
want them).

2. Change the registered owner/company - an easy utility to do this by

3. Please be aware that best practice with a second-hand computer is to
format the hard drive and clean-install Windows. Here are links
explaining how to do that and what you will need to have on-hand:

Best bet when you buy a used pc is to wipe the drive and install the OS
you want to use totally fresh.
