adjusting bass and treble controls

I am using WMP9 with XP when I go to my advanced Controls to adjust the bass and treble I do not have the option to change them they are in light grey not black. Can anyone tell me how to remedy this problem.
 
It would help if I gave some info. When I go to my advanced controls for the volume controls it will not let me adjust the bass and treble. Can anyone tell me what I need to change to be able to make the adjustments

It depends if that is supported by your soundcard's drivers. Check with your
manufacturer for newer drivers.
