Although I have McAfee Firewall installed, I noticed
through this newsgroup that "Sygate" firewall has often
been referred to. I accessed Sygates' free version and
ran a scan after which I received a message that my
computer is not fully or adequately protected. Can
someone please comment on this and offer some suggestions
or recommendation. Thanks to all.

Sygate is a good firewall that happens to be free to users for personal use and it works very well.

Many internet scans will only report your system is protected completely if the scan turns up absolutely nothing meaning that your computer gave no response at all to anything sent to it. However, sometimes, you may want to poke holes in a firewall to allow some services. For example, you might have port 3389 open for Terminal Services/Remote Desktop.
Other things checked might be TCP ping, UDP port scans, and ICMP messages. Some firewalls might not block all of these in order to allow some programs to work.

No matter what firewall option you use, it's only as good as the options and configuration applied to it.
