I am using Microsoft Word 2000 and would like to be able to use the address book to print letters and labels. When I click on the "tools", "letters and labels", and then on the address book icon, nothing comes up. I expected that my address book in Outlook Express 6 would open and I could select an address from that. It appears that the two are not linked. How do I link them?
My address book in Outlook is entitled "Main Identity" which must be a default title as I did not set up any profiles. In MS Word, the profile appears to also have been created by default as it uses my name. I did not create it.
You're dealing with a relatively unknowledgeable user ....
Thanks
Hendrik

The Outlook Express address book is not compatible with Word. You must use a
MAPI complaint address book, which is essentially Outlook and to that end
Outlook must be your default e-mail application.

Thank you for getting back to me. As mentioned I am relatively unknowledgeable ....
What does MAPI stand for
How do I make Outlook my default e-mail application? I wen to Outlook Express, clicked on "tools", "options", "general", and in the "Default Messaging Programs" area I have two choices .... at that point I got "cold feet" as I did not know what the impact of clicking on "this is not my default ... etc".
Can you provide additional direction
Thank
Hendri

Hendrix,

MAPI is an acronym for Messaging Application Programming Interface.

Graham is talking about two different applications "OUTLOOK Express" which
isn't MAPI compliant and OUTLOOK which is. If you have Microsoft OUTLOOK as
part of your Office Application Suite then you can make it your default.
The following is the procedure in OUTLOOK2003. If you have another version
then try searching your help file for directions.

Form the OUTLOOK2003 Help File:
Make Outlook the default program for E-mail, Contacts, and Calendar
1.. On the Tools menu, click Options, and then click Other.
2.. Under General, select the Make Outlook the default program for E-mail,
Contacts, and Calendar check box.

Thank you for getting back to me
Unfortunately as a retired person, I'm "home alone" with no access to an Office Application Suite. If I understand you correctly, based on the programs I currently have, I can not access my address book in Outlook Express 6 from the Microsoft Word 2000 program. Will I have to create a separate and duplicate address listing for each program

Is there any way to copy one to the other

Thank

Hendri

You understand correctly. You can export the OE address book to a file which
you can use as a data source for the purpose of mail merge, and which will
need updating before you merge if addresses have been changed or added. To
do what you really want to do, you need Outlook.
