Using Outlook 2003...

Whenever I open the Outlook Address Book, a dialog pops up telling me that
the contact list associated with the address book can't be opened. Problem
is, there are clearly contacts listed in Outlook.

It gets really wierd when I check the properties for the address boon under
"Tools --> Email Accounts --> View or Change existing directories or address
books." There's nothing listed in there, yet there's a contacts folder
listed in the "Show names from" dropdown in the address book dialog.

So... How do I delete the current, empty and non-existant Contacts folder
from my non-existant address book, so that I can creat a new address book
and put my real contacts list into it so that I can use it?

Does that make any sense? I can post screen shots to a website to clarify
if need be.

Alright... I now have Contacts listed twice in my address book. One has
names in it, the other's empty. If I open the "view existing directory or
address book" in the email accounts screen, no contacts folders are listed,
yet when I go to Tools --> Options in the address book window itself, there
are two Contacts folders now. One is empty, the other has names. Neither
can be deleted.

So... How do I delete the one that doesn't exist? Or do both of them not
exist? How do I start from scratch with no address books at all?

Just remove the invalid reference to a Contacts Folder here:
Tools > E-mail accounts > View or change existing directories or address
books > Outlook Address Book > Change.

That's part of my problem. Despite being able to access the Outlook Address
book, there's absolutely nothing listed in the spot you mentioned. That's
actually the first place I looked.

Then remove the Outlook Address Book service (Tools>E-mail Accounts>View or
change existing directories or address books>Next, select Outlook Address
Book, click Remove) , stop and restart Outlook, and add the OAB service back
into the profile.
