Address book problem!

I'm about to go mad!!! Someone tie me down!!!! <grin>

I'm trying to send an e-mail to a friend. His name is Gale Tenney. When I
type Gale Tenney and press <tab> I get an OLD e-mail address. My contacts
list has only one entry for him, no other entries for his name in any form.
The contacts list has the correct e-mail address.

I changed the entry weeks ago, and I can't get rid of the old address, but I
can't find it anywhere in the contacts list. Why isn't Outlook reading the
new address?

You haven't provided enough information. We cannot tell whether you are
using autocompletion or autoresolution to select your recipient. If you
don't know either, then at least post your Outlook version and a more
complete description of where your Contacts are stored and how you are
selecting the recipient, and we can probably guess the rest. If you want to

Frankly, I didn't know there was a difference between the two. I know it
now -- thanks!

I'm using Outlook 2002 on a WinXP SR2 system. After reading the article you
mentioned, I can see the problem -- the old address exists somewhere in
Outlook's memory because I sent mail to him at the old address at one time.
I wish I could just erase that entry.

As to the other questions, I use the Contacts tab in Outlook to check my
e-mail addresses. For the heck of it, I also checked the WAB and found it
to be the correct new address, too. In other words, all of these places
have the right address.

I've turned off the autocomplete option, as advised in the article you
reference. I'll see how it works.

You can easily remove the outdated autocompletion reference:
Remove individual addresses from the autocompletion cache by highlighting
the entry when presented in the suggested names list (use your arrow key to
migrate to the entry) and then hitting your Delete key before you tab out of
the field. If your autocomplete list contains only a single entry, use the
directions here:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;289975
If that article is unavailable, the gist of it is to send a message using a
name or address that will add another entry to that dropdown list. Then you
will have the ability to use the arrow key to select the name you want to
remove. This step is no longer necessary in Outlook 2003 and higher.
