When I type a word in the address bar to do a search, I get a page that says
"page cannot be displayed." I also get in the address bar the following
address that includes whatever my search word is. If I type in "tire," I get
the error page and this address: http:///? tire. I've got Windows XP using
SP2 and IE 6.0. I use a cable connection. This started happening after
running Ad-aware and deleting the files it found. Has some browser hijacker
possible reconfigured my browser, and can I fix it? Thanks for the
suggestions!

Go to control panel, internet options, security tab, you will see select a
Web content zone to specify it security settings. First select Internet Icon
then click Default Level Button, make sure it set to Medium, next Local
intranet, and Trusted sites.

Hi Nancy,

Download and run this to restore your default Search functions.
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/regs_edits/RestoreSearch2.REG

You’ll need to manually re-select any Customizations you had previously.

Save the file to the Hard Drive, if you want to, you can view the file in notepad to
see what it does.

Also create a restore point prior to running the regedit - just as a security measure
only.

Nancy,

Reset IE search settings using this fix:

Follow-up with malware cleanup.
