When you hit the arrow key by the address bar in IE 6.0 and
get a bunch of internet sites, are those sites only the
ones you have entered in or do they come from popups or
other sources? I mean would you have to physically type in
the internet address for the address to be saved in the
address drop down? Please any help and confirmation of
this would be greatly appreciated. Hopefully someone knows
for absouletly 100% surety. Thanks.

Thanks for the reply. How sure are you about this though?
Sorry to be such a bother but I need to know for 100%
sure. It sounds crazy I know but I do need to know for a
surety. Does IE have somewhere in there help that it says
this? Or is it a guess? Thanks so much.

This is obviously not an idle query from the tenor of your response to
the last person who answered, so I won't give you a firm answer yet.

First, ensure that you are talking about ONLY the 25 TypedUrls that
you see when you hit the drop-down arrow and not items created by
AutoComplete that appear as you start to type.
Please confirm this by going to the Registry using Regedit.exe and
looking at the key:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\TypedURLs]

Next, give us some background on why you are asking.
In normal conditions, the TypedUrls must be typed in and I have never
heard of a popup site adding a TypedUrl to the Registry.

There are other ways of creating a TypedUrl except physically typing
it in, but they are usually deliberate, e.g. I could edit one of those
values in the Registry or use a .reg file to do so.
(I used to do that occasionally)
I could also use a .vbs script (as I once did) for clearing or adding
TypedUrls.

Give us a little more to go on and someone may do a bit more research.

....Alan

"Hit the arrow key" is ambiguous. Assuming you mean clicking
on the right side dropdown arrow (equivalently pressing F4),
YMMV but it is only things that I have entered in the Address bar
and which actually opened. (The actual behaviour is probably OS
dependent because I have seen other reports that users see things
which they have typed but not necessarily opened, e.g. their typos.)
Search Google Groups for my posts which refer to TypedURLs
for other information about this list.

If you have AutoComplete for Web Addresses (aka AutoSuggest)
activated you will see a much larger list when you press
Please any help and confirmation of
this would be greatly appreciated. Hopefully someone knows

"For absolutely 100% surety" you would be better off testing yourself
so you know what conditions cause entries to be added and under
what conditions entries are not added.

Good luck.
