additional licences

Can anyone please help me with the correct information.

I have two computers (not linked) running W98SE.

I would like to buy the upgrade to XP then once it was registered and
activated on my computer I would want to buy an additional licence to
upgrade my wife's computer.

I have been on the Microsoft website and checked it out and I cannot see a
problem, however I telephoned the Microsoft support line for confirmation
and after long consultations offline to me they said I must buy two separate
upgrades.

I think this is incorrect because it seems to contradict the whole purpose
of buying a second licence.

I do not want to make a costly mistake so any help would be appreciated.

You must buy two licenses to install the upgrade onto two computers.

You can only get additional licenses for certain products, and I don't think
the upgrade is one of them. And as far as it goes, a single additional
license doesn't save you much, anyway. Most people find that they can buy a
full product for less than the cost of an extra license if they shop around
a bit.

Probably better to just buy the upgrade at the best price you can find it.
