I just completed setting up my new computer that incldes
windows XP. I have also installed my old Maxtor hard
drive in order to preserve both the files and some of the
programs whose original copies have been lost during moves
etc...

By the way there needs to be much more documentation on
Slave v. Master drives and how to set them up. It took
about 3 weeks for me to figure that out and get it working.

My problem is this, my new hard drive (F:) has windows 98
operating system on it that I do not utilize.

Should I remove this 98?

How a program comparisson looking for duplicated or
updated programs and files. Can I do a duplicate file and
program search comparing drives c: and f:, then delete by
my choice?

When I use the uninstall with xp I am only offered the
programs on C:, do I have to boot with Win98 and how do I
go about that ?

Any help in these areas would be appreciated. I should
have just gone with a file transfer system for the change,
but wanted to actually get into the hadware for once.

Saving the files will be a breeze, but if you don't have install disks for
those programs, you're not going to get them to work.

Most retail hard drives come with installation instructions. If not, the
jumpers are marked, and some have the jumper configuration on the top of the
drive as well.

It's your drive, you can remove whatever you want. If you have no plan of
using it, you might as well delete it.

Not sure what you're saying here, but the better plan would be to decide
what you need from the old drive, and delete everything else. Deleting
duplicate files isn't going to accomplish much and could get if into trouble
if you make the wrong choices.

You can only uninstall through XP the things you have installed in XP. It
has no way of knowing what is on the other drive.

You should probably do a course and or just go to manufacturer`s sites for
details on connections of hard drives etc.
