My PC already has drives A,C,D,E,F & G assigned. Just got
a flash drive, and although the machione obviously knows
it's there when I plug it in (I can tell by the sound), it
doesn't appear anywhere. ny ideas on how to assign a drive
letter to the flash drive?

Thanks!

Control Panel>Admin Tools.
Computer Management>Disk Management.

Does the drive show up here?
If so right click on it and assign a drive letter.

Martin.

Perhaps it has to be plugged in before you boot the
computer, in order for it to be recognized. Is it?

It must be "recognized" before windows assigns a letter.
If sounds to me like you you are hearing the usb plugged in sound.

BUT........ not ALL usb devices are plug and play. MOST flash drives
are........but sounds like yours may have a problem. Have you
installed the drivers that came with it? Some require files to be
placed in the root directory. Install drivers, and check the
manufacturers homesite for possible "patches, or fixes".
