I have added a slave drive to my computer, and am ready
to format, but am not sure of where to do this. This
drive was the main drive on a 486 machine, (Maxtor 2Gb).
I can see all my files from the old computer, but am
certain I must format and partition it to use it. I
realize it is abit small, but I will use it as a backup
in case the main drive fails. Thanks

Right click on My Computer, and select Manage. On the following screen,
click on Disk Management. It will appear on the right hand side of the
screen.

If you need the files off the drive first, assign it a drive letter. It
should then appear in Windows Explorer. You need not partition it if you
don't want to but after you have copied the files off it, it might be a good
idea to start clean.

Thanks Cari, worked great.

At one time I was going to have a dual boot machine, and
set it up with FAT32. Now I would like to convert to
NTFS. Can I do this without loosing data. I know you
can't go the opposite way.
