When I tried to install new 256mb of ram in my system
Windows XP Pro will not start. It goes into a text
message saying sorry for the inconvenience about some
problem starting because of a hardware. I was suppose to
arrow up to safe mode or last known last good or start
normally. I tried all but that did not work. So I put the
original Ram stick back in the system and it works. What
is the Problem.

Thanks

does the speed/chipset match new ram to old ram.
these have to match and be same speed/chipset.

Sounds same as me trying to upgrade my processor. Wont
work unless i put the old one back in. No ideas yet jim
said to reinstall windows but i cant do if i try to boot
from disk it says inf file is incorrect

Is it the correct memory? Check at
http://www.crucial.com.

Make sure our memory modules are compatible:
Download "AIDA32 - Personal" from:
http://www.aida32.hu/aida-download.php?bit=32
and install and run it. Click on the '+' next to
"Motherboard", then on "SPD", then on each "Device
Description". The characteristics it lists for your memory
modules should match, except for size.

Run a memory diagnostic: Download memtest86 from
http://www.memtest86.com and run it for a few passes.
you should get zero errors.

How do I install or run the test software when Windows XP will not load?
.

You put the test on a floppy and boot to it.

Greetings --

It's absolutely essential that any new RAM module be compatible
with both the motherboard and any other RAM module(s) in the system.
Additionally, there are sometimes jumper switches on older
motherboards that need to be reset for the new RAM configuration.
Consult your motherboard's manual.

Andrew,

I've had this problem with incompatible RAM. I installed a 2nd Kingston
ValueRam module (same size and rating) and the system crashed. Turned out
that the particular module wasn't compatible with the previously installed
module. I ended up using that new module in another system where it was
compatible.

Jeff,

Hadn't tried it, but AIDA32 is a Windows program AFAIK, so if he can't boot
into Windows, he can't run the program.

You put the test on a floppy and boot to it.

If either one of your sticks of RAM are Parity or ECC and
the other is not they will not work together. Check out
www.crucial.com for an in depth explanation on RAM terms.

I read memtest86, not AIDA32.

Yes, you are correct about AIDA32.
