Adding progs with OEM version

I have XPHE pre-installed on my laptop. When I look in Add/Remove progs,
Windows components as in W98 I see that some items do not have all
applications installed. On my desktop using W98SE if I want to add the
extra software when doing it I was asked to insert the W98SE which was
supplied with my PC by the manufacturer even though it was pre-installed.
Being as you no longer get the 'original' XP discs with computers but
receive a 'Recovery disc' instead which has XP on it, I was wondering how
you add these progs now?
I did have to use the Recovery disc when System Restore stopped working and
my laptop failed to start after about 10 days from purchase. It worked
seamlessly to my surprise.

Q. "I was wondering how you add these progs now?"

A. You visit your favorite store that sells computer software
and purchase new software programs. You cannot install
programs that are found in an old Windows 98 Restore CD.

Have you tried adding those components? OEM software is usually resident in
a secure partition on your hard drive, and therefore no longer require a
separate CD. In most cases all you need to do is to indicate that you want
to add those components and it will be found where those files are stored.
If they are not available (possibly because of a minimal version) you will
be told.

That isn't what I meant!! I have the CDs sent with my new laptop. I wish to
add certain XP components that were not installed at the time and was
enquiring how I did it!!
I am not trying to get something for nothing just trying to access parts of
the XP Prog which were not installed when the computer was set up for the
first time. The same situation that occurs with most computers I would
imagine, not aspect of the prog are installed straight away, just as you may
wish to uninstall game that were loaded etc.

Thanks I haven't actually tried adding any yet. I just presumed it would be
the same as on W98 that when it needed something that wasn't installed it
asked for the W98 CDs to be inserted.

To install Windows components that were not installed at the factory, the
process is the same as Windows 98. If the factory included the "i386"
contents on your hard drive, "C:\Windows\i386", point the installer there.
[NOTE: i386 is hidden -- to view it, in Windows Explorer -- Tools / Folder
Options / View / Show Hidden Files & Folders]

If the factory did not include an "i386" folder on your hard drive, see if
it is on one of the recovery disks.

Just try adding them. The necessary files should be on the hard
drive.

Good luck
