Adding pop up help for definitions or terms

I'm creating a word document. In order to keep the lenght of the document
down and provide help only to those who need it, I would like to add "help"
for defining some of the terms used. I would like to use something similar
to adding pop up help when you create form fields in a template. Is there a
way to add the same type of pop up window for text that is not part of the
form field (check box, text field drop down etc.)

G'day "corrine" <[email protected]>,

Comments can operate like that if you have Show Tooltips on.

In Word 2003 SP1, I am *not* seeing ScreenTips for comments (and I do
definitely have ScreenTips enabled). It seems to me that I did in Word 2002,
but I can't swear to it.

G'day "Suzanne S. Barnhill" <[email protected]>,

DAMN! It was my favouritest trick for embedded help in simple
documents. When I get hold of the MS programmer responsible, I'll ring
his neck until it's out of service :-)

Comments still show as pop-up tips here in 2003, provided you don't have the
balloons displayed - and if you do have the balloons displayed, the comments
are in the balloons.

Hmm. I thought I had tried that... Okay, here's the deal. ScreenTips *will*
display, whether or not you have balloons *enabled*, provided you are in a
view in which they are not *displayed*. Since I always work in Normal view,
that's what I was trying, and it was in fact not working. What I have now
figured out is that if you select text before inserting a comment, then that
text is marked with a highlight and you get a ScreenTip when you mouse over
it. If you insert the comment at a point, however, you don't get the
ScreenTip. Ordinarily, this would not be an issue: if you insert a comment
at a point in a body of text, Word selects the word before the point. I was
trying this, however, in a document (Document1) that was empty except for
the single space I type to keep it open. So in normal practice, comments
would always be visible in a popup. Glad I cleared that up for my own peace
of mind!

WHEW! It is such a neat feature I'd hate to see it wander off. Thanks
guys for checking this one out!
