My computer which has WindowsXP Home Edition and has the font Courier listed
in the Fonts folder in Control Panel. My Microsoft Office Word 2003 only has
Courier New listed in the drop down text box. How can I access the font
folder in Control Panel and add the font I want (Courier) to the Microsoft
Office Word 2003 fonts?

The Courier you're seeing in the Fonts folder is a screen font; Word will
display and use only fonts that can be printed.

Thank you for your reply and information. I thought there was a way to add
more fonts to Word. I will do some more research. Thanks for your help!

Word uses all the printable fonts that are in the Windows Fonts folder. You
add more fonts to Word by adding them to Windows.

Sorry to be dim, but how do you import more fonts to Windows? Courier,
specifically?

I am using MS Word 2003 for screenwriting purposes, and it is required that
we write in Courier 12pt. font, not "Courier New."

I think that is why this question has cropped up a couple times on this forum.

Thanks so much for the reply!!! That explains a lot. It irks me to no end
that MS Word 2003 does not make such a commonly requested font available!!!
Just look at the multiple threads about on this board.

And it irks me that I might have to shell out $20 for one font??!! I did a
quick check of download.com, but haven't found any freeware that offers
Courier, yet. Does anyone know any offhand?

Also, if I were to download a font onto one computer, could I save it to a
zip disk or cd-rw and install it in a second computer? Or do I have to pay
once for each computer?

I'm not sure why Courier New, formatted as 12 pt won't work for you anyway?
Also... courier really isn't used that much anymore, so I don't know why
some people still insist on it. :) We can yell at everybody all day long. I
did not search hard for that font. Check the license agreement for the font
you download/buy. I would say that if you're using it on your own PCs for
your own use, you should be able to copy to as many PCs as you have.

Courier included with some versions of Windows is a screen font. Word cannot
use screen fonts. Some laser printers include Courier as a built-in font and
for these Word can make the font available for use. Microsoft supplies
Courier New as a TTF font that is a close facsimile of Courier. If this one
is not suited to your requirements for some reason, then you are going to
have to licence the proprietary font for use on your PCs.What licences are
required you will have to take up with the copyright holder.
