I added 2G memory had 2G computer starts fine with 2G, but when I add 1G or
2G computer starts ok, the bios finds the added memory, then I click start
vista, a few seconds later I faintly see the bar that runs when vista is
starting and instantly reboots the computer. I thought it might be the new
memory, but I replace one old memory and kept one old memory and Vista starts
fine, adding the other two Vista gets to the bar that scrolls across near the
bottom and reboots everytime.

Vista CAN BE much more finicky about memory then say XP is.

Lots of things could go wrong in no particular order:

1. bad memory
2. different brand (some don't mix well with other brands)
3. improper timing (check BIOS, dig out your MB manual
4. on some MB's you may need to change a jumper.

Pull all memory, hope you know which is new and old. Keep the old and
working memory aside. Put just the old memory back in. Now go to BIOS,
mark down your settings, then find the default setting for your BIOS
so you defeat all fancy features. Now see if Vista boots. If so, take
out all your old memory, put in just the new. Still boot ok? Ok, not
add one stick at a time. You may want to test the memory in a loop and
see if anything pops out. Bad memory is often intermittent in nature
and errors may not show up for quite awhile.
