I have an XPpro computer which was used on a server200 domain which no longer
exists the XP machine has not been used since the demise of the 2000server
domain. I want to add this XP machine to my SBServer 2003 domain and keep all
the settings desktop emails ect intact on it. I know that when I connect the
network cable and fire this machine up it will boot to the password screen. I
know the logon name and password used on this machine but this machine will
be looking for a domain that is no longer available. What can I do to get
this machine to look for the new domain and become part of the new domain.
Are their any snags I should prepare for before starting to try and connect .
Please help I am still only a newbie to these computer thingys

Thank you

You must be logged on as an administrator or a member of the Administrators
group in order to complete this procedure. If your computer is connected to a
network, network policy settings might also prevent you from completing this procedure.

1. Open System in Control Panel.
2. On the Computer Name tab, click Change.
3. Under Member of, click Domain, type the name of the domain you want to join, and then click OK.
You will be prompted to provide a user name and user password to join the computer to the domain.
4. Click OK to close the System Properties dialog box.
You will be prompted to restart your computer to apply your changes.

Notes:

To open System, click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click System.
You can also use the Network Identification Wizard to join a domain. To use the wizard, perform Step 1 above. On the Computer Name
tab, click Network ID, and follow the instructions on your screen.

Unplug it from a network - log in with cached credentials - use the Files
and Settings Transfer wizard to export the profile information, log out -
log in as a local admin (if you don't know one and the cached credential
logon is a local admin - use it to change the local administrator account's
password so you can use it now) and remove the system from the old domain -
it will ask for a password to leave the domain - but give it anything to
join the workgroup. Reboot. Log back in as the local administrator, join
the new domain - reboot. Log in as a user and you will need to use FAST to
import settings.

Thankyou both these answers are excellent Im sorry I cant work out how to
rate your help

Thank you
