adding an image to a personal signature

I would like to add an image to my personal signature, but can't figure out
how to do it. The advanced portion of the signature tab isn't all that
helpful. I have tried using tags
with the source in
between. Is that supposed to work? Because when I look at the signature on
an email I am creating, it just shows the tag and source, not the picture.
 
Yes--for both Mail sending and news sending in the Send tab of Options
